Ya… That Clayton Kershaw

Although Dodger ace Clayton Kershaw may not have looked very sharp in his first spring training appearance five days ago, he looked like the Clayton Kershaw that we all know and love in his second start on Thursday against the Angels at Camelback Ranch in an eventual 10-8 win over the crosstown rivals.

In his three innings on the mound, Kershaw allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits; however, he struck out 7 and didn’t allow a walk to pick up his first win of the spring.

Kershaw was assisted by Luis Cruz, who collected his second hit of the spring, both of which have been home runs, and this one a three-run blast off of the left field foul pole gave the Dodgers a lead that they would not relinquish. Cruz is now tied with Alex Castellanos with a team-leading two homes runs. Unfortunately, the pair are the only two Dodgers who have homered thus far.

Non-roster invitee Alfredo Amezaga continues to tear it up this spring by picking up two more hit along with two RBIs and two runs scored. Amezaga is now hitting .455  with a team-tying 4 RBIs (with Castellanos) this spring. Mark Ellis and Nick Punto also picked up two hits each, part of the Dodgers 13 hits on the day. In the past two games, the Dodgers have tallied 21 runs on 27 hits.

Zack Greinke will get the start on Friday in a split squad game against the Padres at Camelback Ranch. The other half of the team will travel to Tempe to take on these same Angels. There have been rumors that Matt Kemp will make his spring training debut on Friday, but this has not been confirmed.

Looks like I missed a good one!! Speaking of Cruz, Ron would you give the Fernando bobble head to Mike to bring to me. I’m going to “rent” it for a year and then give it back 🙂 Any luck getting Greinke’s autograph?
