The 2013 season was arguably one of the greatest and most exciting in the 130-year history of the Dodgers franchise – especially from June 22 on. During that historic run (which actually began on June 3 when Yasiel Puig was called up from the minor leagues) there were many great moments and it is difficult to pick out just one. However, if I had to pick only one, it would be Yasiel Puig’s dramatic 11th inning walk-off home run to give the Dodgers a 1-0 win over the playoff-bound Cincinnati Reds on July 28.

Puig’s home run was the first walk-off home run to break a scoreless tie in the 11th inning or later since Dodger great Carl Furillo did so on May 2, 1955 at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn – the same year that the Dodgers went on to win their first-ever World Series title.

Another great memory and my runner-up to the Puig walk-off home run was the improbable come-from-behind 7-6 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on August 9 at Dodger Stadium.

Trailing 6-0 heading into the bottom of the 7th inning, the Dodgers scored one run in the 7th, two in the 8th and an unbelievable four runs in the bottom of the 9th, with the game winner coming on a throwing error by Rays reliever Fernando Rodney on what should have been a game-ending double play. Instead, Rodney’s throw sailed into center field allowing Adrian Gonzalez to score the winning run from second base for the unlikely 7-6 Dodger win.
