Thank you… simply thank you

On behalf of the entire staff at ThinkBlueLA.com, I wish to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you who generously took the time to read (and hopefully enjoy) the articles and stories that we shared with you throughout the 2013 season.

We were blessed to enjoy tremendous growth this past year season which, of course, never would have happened without all of you. I was personally blessed to meet many of you at Dodger Stadium and at various other Dodger-related functions throughout the season. I was also blessed to meet many of the great Dodger beat writers, broadcasters, photographers, scouts and fellow bloggers in the Vin Scully Press Box, many of whom I have become good friends with.

As we all pack away our Dodger hats, jerseys, T-shirts, jackets and other Dodger stuff that we proudly wore throughout the season and prepare to face the rapidly approaching and painfully long off-season, we want you to know that you don’t have to go it alone.

We will continue present articles and human interest stories (hopefully on a daily basis) throughout the off-season and encourage you to please include us during your daily run-through of the many great Dodgers sites out there. We may not be as big as some of them but what we lack in size, we make up for in passion.

We will also provide the very latest Dodger happenings throughout the off-season, especially during the always-exciting Baseball Winter Meetings which will be held December 9-12, 2013 at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort in Orlando, Florida. Like many of you, the Hot Stove season is one of our favorite times of the year.

Although not always earth-shattering, the Dodgers always seem to do something exciting during the annual Baseball Winter Meeting - or shortly afterwards.

Thank you again for your loyal support and let me leave you with this famous excerpt from former MLB Commissioner A. Bartlett Giamatti’s timeless classic The Green Fields of the Mind:

Baseball

“It  breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops.”

The Giamatti piece seems to be rather popular these days.

It always is at this time of year.

I had it posted on the wall in my office for many years and stared at it frequently during the off-season, which always seems to crawl by.

To me only the baseball games stop but everything else about baseball continues. There’s alway something interesting and or important happening. It’s a year round hobby.

Having no off-season, my wife loves to remind me that “in Mexico baseball never ends.” That comment can be followed by a smile or a frown.

I am amazed at how many more major leaguers are choosing to play winter ball in Mexico over the Dominican and other Caribbean leagues. It didn’t used to be this way.
