Quakes third baseman Paul Hoenecke promoted to Double-A Tulsa

After only eight games with the Dodgers Advanced Single-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, 24-year-old utility infielder/outfielder Paul Hoenecke has been promoted to the franchises’ Double-A Tulsa Drillers. It is the first promotion of the new season from the Quakes.

Hoenecke, who was selected by the Dodgers in the 24th round of the 2012 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, went 10 for 31 (.323) with a home run, three doubles and seven RBIs in his short time with the Quakes, who are currently enjoying a four-game winning streak and are tied for first place in the highly competitive California League’s South Division.

During spring training, Hoenecke appeared in five games with the Dodgers collecting three hits in his five at-bats (.600) with a walk and an RBI. He also played flawless defense at third base with no errors in seven chances and started one successful double play.

In a corresponding roster move, the Quakes activated 24-year-old utility infielder Delvis Morales from the disabled list presumably to take over third base for Hoenecke. Morales appeared in 29 games with the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes in 2014 where he was 18 for 67 (.269) with no home runs, three doubles and seven RBIs. He played 24 games at shortstop and two at second base with the Isotopes. Morales also appeared in one game with the Quakes in 2014 at second base. He went 1 for 3 in that game with a single.

Hoenecke has played first base in his two games with the Drillers. First baseman Lars Anderson was moved up to OKC Dodgers from the Drillers to replace O’Koyea Dickson who is on the 7-day DL with a shoulder issue.
