Jackie Robinson Day highlights Dodgers second homestand

The Dodgers return to Los Angeles on Friday to take on the Arizona Diamondbacks (April 14-17) and Colorado Rockies (April 18-19) during their six-game homestand, which will be highlighted by Jackie Robinson Day and the first-ever Dodger Stadium statue dedication on Saturday, April 15.

On Saturday, the 70th anniversary of Jackie Robinson’s debut on April 15, 1947, the club will unveil the first-ever statue in Dodger Stadium history in Robinson’s likeness on the Left Field Reserve Plaza in a 3:00 p.m. ceremony that will be attended by Rachel, Sharon and David Robinson, Dodger owner Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Dodger President & CEO Stan Kasten, Vin Scully, Tommy Lasorda, Sandy Koufax, Don Newcombe, Jaime Jarrín and Frank Robinson, and emceed by Kevin Frazier. Jackie Robinson Day will also be celebrated during pre-game ceremonies and throughout the Dodgers’ 6:10 p.m. game against the D-backs Saturday, when the first 40,000 ticketed fans in attendance will receive a replica of the Jackie Robinson statue, presented by Bank of America. To allow more fans to join in Jackie Robinson Day festivities and enjoy the statue on the day of its unveiling, the team has made a select number of lower priced tickets available for purchase for Saturday’s game on Dodgers.com.

I am happy to see that Jackie is depicted to be sliding into (or stealing a base) for his statue. I think he was one of the most intelligent base runners in MLB history.
