Quakes DJ Peters named Cal League Player of the Week for second time

Rancho Cucamonga Quakes outfielder and Southern California native DJ Peters has been named the California League Player of the Week for the second time this season, this time for the week of June 12-18. He was also the league’s Player of the Week for April 24-30.

“It’s an absolute honor and blessing knowing that all of your hard work, dedication and desire isn’t going unnoticed” said Peters. “I’m super excited to start up this second half of the season. It should be a great one.”

Although a right-handed batter, Glendora’s DJ Peters is drawing comparisons to Dodgers rookie phenom Cody Bellinger for his powerful swings. Ironically, both are 21 years old.

Peters batted .391 (9-for-23) during the week, slugging three home runs, a triple and a double for a very impressive .913 slugging percentage. He also drove in seven runs and collected eight walks for an equally impressive .563 on-base percentage to give him an alien-like 1.476 OPS.

Through the first half of the season – which concluded this past Sunday – the Glendora, California native and lifelong Dodger fan posted a slash-line of .261/.381/.494 for an OPS of .874. His 12 home runs are tied for second in the league behind the 15 hit by teammate Ibandel Isabel.

Peters was selected by the Dodgers in the fourth round of the 2016 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Glendora High School. He, Ibandel and fellow Quakes Luke Raley, Will Smith, Dennis Santana and Caleb Ferguson were named to the 2017 Cal League All-Star Game, which was held this past Tuesday in Visalia, California.

Fans hoping to see Peters play in person with the Quakes might want to head out to LoanMart Field in Rancho Cucamonga real soon, as the 6′-6″ / 225-pound All Star outfielder will most likely be promoted to the Dodgers Double-A affiliate Tulsa Drillers very soon.

…if he hasn’t been already.
