The Shohei Ohtani sweepstakes is over – He’s going to Disneyland

It was short, sweet and to the point, and it sent Twitter into an absolute frenzy.

Shortly before noon on Friday morning, Japanese superstar pitcher / slugger Shohei Ohtani announced through his agent Nez Balelo that he had made his decision on which team he would sign with.

While this announcement may have come as a surprise to some, it didn’t for one local Dodger fan / blogger:

Regardless, the first half of this off-season’s soap opera is finished. But as another Dodger fan / blogger put it:

Pun intended, of course.

Stay tuned…

Great choice by Ohtani! Congrats to him and Angels!

I was figuring the AL would be the best fit for him, since managers aren’t likely to want him playing in the field every day instead of resting and preparing for his next start.
Will he bat on the days he pitches? If the game starts without a DH they can’t insert one later. Scioscia would have to manage NL Style.
What about Pujols? Platoon? Pujols bats against southpaws and on days Shohei pitches?

I wasn’t surprised that he went to a west coast team, but I was being to believe it was Seattle or San Diego.

To each his own. Rather than Disneyland, the kid should have chosen to do some star gazing at Dodger Stadium and the nearby Griffith Park Observatory. At least I think so.

Looking forward to seeing if the kid is the real deal. It’s gonna be real tough to be a true two-way star. It’s even gonna be real tough being a one-way star. But just glad we won’t find out while he’s in S.F. Major coup for the Angels.
