‘Something is brewin, about to begin’

About an hour before Thursday evening’s Quakes/JetHawks game at The Hangar in Lancaster, Quakes play-by-play man Mike Lindskog got one of those phone calls – a media guy’s nightmare.

“The entire line-up just changed,” said Lindskog. “They’re sending [recently arrived Quakes left fielder] Yadir Drake to the Ogden. There’s going to be a bunch of roster moves in the entire organization tomorrow (Friday).”

Wait a minute. They’re sending 26-year-old Yadir Drake to Ogden? The Ogden Raptors are in the short-season Pioneer Rookie League, which doesn’t even begin play until June 18. This makes no sense whatsoever – unless, of course, Drake is hurt and this is just a paper move.

Something is brewin indeed.

As it turned out, the Quakes did make several minor line-up changes with the most significant being the scratching of Drake and inserting Webster Rivas as the Quakes designated hitter.

The Quakes ended up winning the game 3-2 to once again take over sole possession of first place in the Cal League South Division after yet another brilliant pitching performance by Quakes right-hander Jose De Leon.

Upon arriving home after the game, I learned that Dodgers top prospect Corey Seager had been promoted from the Double-A Tulsa Drillers to the Triple-A Oklahoma City Dodgers – thus confirming that something is brewin’ within the Dodgers minor league system.

Orange County Register Dodgers beat reporter Bill Plunkett broke the news of the Corey Seager promotion around 9 pm on Thursday night.

Although the Drake and the Seager moves are the only ones known at this time (and the Drake move has yet to be confirmed), it appears that there’s going to be a lot going on later today Down on the Dodgers Farm.

Stay tuned…

Listened to that game until Jose finished his six innings. Only listened to the pitching as I was also following the Drillers and OKC Dodgers. Need a split screen or something.

Yadir Drake has to be injured. He is a paper move or involved in a trade. That crossed my mind when Seager was pulled after the third inning in the Drillers game.
