Right-hander Mitchell White promoted to Triple-A OKC

Buried under all of the unpleasant news that flooded social media on Tuesday morning was a bit of good news … very good news.

Early Tuesday afternoon longtime Dodgers beat writer Ken Gurnick reported that 24-year-old right-hander Mitchell White has been promoted from the Double-A Tulsa Drillers to the Triple-A Oklahoma City Dodgers.

Just this past week, ThinkBlueLA’s Jesse Pearce wrote that White’s promotion to OKC was a “very real” possibility.

Dodger fans may recall that White received an invitation to Dodgers major league spring training camp this past spring, during which he appeared in two games. He allowed one run on one hit with three walks and three strikeouts in his combined 1.2 innings of relief, for a 5.40 ERA with a .167 batting average against.

The 6′-4″ / 210-pound San Jose, CA native and Dodgers second round draft pick in 2016 (out of Santa Clara University) was assigned to Double-A Tulsa out of spring training, where he has been nothing short of sensational. In his seven appearances with the Drillers – all starts – White is 1-0 with an outstanding 2.40 ERA. He has walked seven while striking out 37 in his combined 30.0 innings of work.

If White pitches at Triple-A OKC the way he did at Double-A Tulsa, Dodger fans can expect to see him under the lights at Dodger Stadium this season.

See you at The Ravine soon, Mitchell.

Was only a matter of when for him. White has been extremely sharp his last few outings, no doubt finally over those nagging health issues that plagued him the last couple years. Can’t wait to see him up with the parent club later this season.
