Chargois, Sborz headed to LA

ThinkBlueLA has learned from a trusted source that right-handers JT Chargois and Josh Sborz are en route to Dodger Stadium from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Although one of the two will be used to fill the roster vacancy created when Dodgers left-hander Rich Hill is officially placed on the 10-day injured list later today, the other move comes as a bit of a surprise and the corresponding roster move is unknown.

As Dodger fans know, the 39-year-old Hill experienced left forearm discomfort as he was beginning his warm-up tosses prior to the second inning of Wednesday’s 9-2 blowout win over the San Francisco Giants at Dodger Stadium. As a result, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was forced to use Dylan Floro, Yimi Garcia, Caleb Ferguson, Pedro Baez and Joe Kelly out of his bullpen. And even though all of these guys threw fewer than 25 pitches and are all available for Thursday’s series finale with the Giants, having additional help out of the bullpen is (was) a must for the NL West-leading Dodgers.

Chargois made two relief appearances with the Dodgers earlier this season, allowing two runs and two hits in his combined 1.2 innings pitched for a 10.80 ERA.

Chargois is 1-2 with a 2.17 ERA in the 24 games in which he has appeared with the OKC Dodgers this season and Sborz 2-3 with a 4.91 ERA in the 25 games in which he has appeared. That being said, neither right-hander has been used as a starter this season, which suggests that either left-hander Julio Urias or right-hander Ross Stripling will be moved into the Dodgers starting rotation while Hill is on the mend.

As of this writing there has been no official announcement from the Dodgers regarding any these moves.

Figured they’d go with Chargois, but Sborz as well??? Hmmm, guess they want to see what they finally have with that guy. Did hear while tuning in to those OKC games that his velocity has picked up a bit his last few outings and is now touching 97 consistently. Probably got himself on the Driveline program at some point. Oh well, best of luck to both of ’em on the parent club!

  2. If both these pitchers come up here , a corresponding roster move to accommodate both on the 25 man roster might be sending either Kyle Garlick or Matt Beaty down but who knows…

My guess is Maeda to the IL, retroactive. He’s already almost five days in.

^^^ This would be my guess too but before the last two days I’d have been asking if either Taylor or Kike had options left?! Garlick and Beaty have both looked like they’re hitting their strides.

I’m guessing Stripling goes into Hill’s rotation spot to give us a little more righty/lefty starting balance and Urias stays in the pen because our LH pitching out of the pen is so limited.

Didn’t expect Beaty optioned right now!
