Verdugo, Ferguson to lead ‘Play Ball’ clinic at LA Police Academy

Dodgers, Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation to Host Youth Activities in Celebration of Play Ball Weekend

WHAT:

  • In celebration of Play Ball Weekend, the Dodgers are teaming up with Major League Baseball and the Los Angeles Police Department to host 150 elementary school-aged youth for a ‘Play Ball’ clinic. In addition to the clinic, participating youth from LAPD Youth Program Units will have the opportunity to take a tour of the facility and will be provided with a Dodgers t-shirt, lunch and transportation to the event.

  • Friday, June 21, 2019
  • 11:45 a.m.  – Welcome
  • 12:00 p.m. – Player Arrival, Clinic begins
  • 1:15 p.m. – Lunch/Academy Tour

MISC:  

  • The ‘Play Ball’ initiative is the sport’s collective effort to encourage young people and communities to participate in baseball- and softball-related activities, including formal leagues, special events and casual forms of play.
  • The Dodgers and LADF will be hosting ‘Play Ball’ events throughout the weekend, with LADF dedicating its 51st Dodgers Dreamfield Saturday at Jack Bulik Park in Fontana, a Dodgers RBI Dodger Day community festival at Highland Park Recreation Center on Saturday and the team hosting a Pitch, Hit & Run Competition – MLB’s “Official Youth Skills Competition” – for top baseball and softball qualifiers from Southern California and Hawaii Sunday morning at Dodger Stadium. Additionally, the Dodgers will host nearly 700 youth at the ballpark this weekend for a game through the club’s Kids 4 Dodgers Baseball Program, including Sunday when young fans have the opportunity to run the bases following the game.
