Lux Called Up to Dodgers

Although a surprise to absolutely no one, ThinkBlue LA has learned from a trusted source that 21-year-old middle infielder Gavin Lux has been called up to the Dodgers.

As most Dodger fans know by now, the Kenosha, WI native and Dodgers first-round draft pick in 2016 out of Indian Trail High School in Kenosha flat out tore up Triple-A pitching with the franchise’s Oklahoma City Dodgers, posting an alien-like slash-line of .392/.478/.719/1.197 with 18 doubles, four triples, 13 home runs and 39 RBI in only 49 games with the Dodgers Triple-A affiliate.

Although Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has repeatedly said that Lux would more than likely receive a September 1 call-up, he also said that there was no real spot for him in his line-up. However, with Dodgers utility infielder Max Muncy on the injured list with a fractured right wrist after being hit by a pitch last week, that roster spot – more specifically second base – now appears to be available; at least in a platooning role with popular utility infielder/outfielder Kiké Hernandez.

Although unconfirmed, it is believed that Lux will join the team in time for Sunday’s series finale with the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field … if he isn’t already in the Dodgers clubhouse, that is.

UPDATE:

Per AM 570’s David Vassegh, Lux is not listed on the Dodgers Reserve List for Sunday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field, nor has his call-up been officially announced by the Dodgers. Because Lux is not currently on the Dodgers 40-man roster, a corresponding move will be required before he can be activated. This suggests that Lux will join the team in Los Angeles when they return home on Monday to begin a six-game homestand, three with the Colorado Rockies and three with the San Francisco Giants.

UPDATE – 2:

Following Sunday’s 11-inning / 4-3 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed that Gavin Lux has indeed been called up and will be in the starting line-up as the Dodgers second baseman on Monday against the Colorado Rockies at Dodger Stadium. Roberts did not, however, indicate what the corresponding move will be on the Dodgers 40-man roster.
