Steve Garvey to sign autographs at JetHawks – Quakes game tonight

Fans who simply cannot go a night without baseball with the Dodgers being off not only have an opportunity to see what figures to be a great pitching duel between Dodgers top prospect Jose De Leon and Astros top prospect Adrian Houser tonight at The Hangar in Lancaster, but they will also get to see Dodgers great Steve Garvey throw out the ceremonial first pitch and then sign autographs for fans.

Garvey, a 10-time All-Star, two-time NL MVP, World Series champion and four-time Gold Glove winner, is scheduled to make his ceremonial first pitch at 6:25 pm and then sign autographs from 7-8 pm in The Hangar’s main concourse

Quakes right-hander Jose De Leon has been nothing short of sensational since being drafted by the Dodgers in the 24th round of the 2013 First Year Player Draft. In fact, during the 2014 season the 22-year-old Isabela, Puerto Rico native posted a phenomenal 7-0 record and 2.22 ERA when he split time between the Ogden Raptors of the Pioneer Rookie League and Great Lakes Loons of the Low Single-A Midwest League. He also pitched in the Puerto Rican Winter League this past off season where he went 2-1 with a 1.12 ERA. His outstanding work earned him a 9th place ranking on MLB.com’s Top-10 Dodgers Prospects list. Through his first three starts with the Quakes this season De Leon is 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA and leads the team with his 19 strike outs and has a Kershaw-like K/9 mark of 14.2 and a equally remarkable K/BB ratio of 4.75.

Although JetHawks right-hander Adrian Houser is 0-0 with a 5.79 ERA in his three appearances (two starts) with the JetHawks this season, he has struck out 15 and walked only four in his 9.1 innings of work thus far. The 22-year-old Locust Grove, Oklahoma native was selected by the Astros in the second round of the 2011 MLB Draft (69th overall pick) and is 10-18 with a 4.11 ERA in his five-year minor league career.

Dodgers and/or Steve Garvey fans can still get tickets to tonight’s match-up between the Quakes and the defending 2014 Cal League Champion JetHawks on-line through the JetHawks website.
