Saylor returns for third season as Quakes manager

The Dodgers announced on Monday afternoon that Barberton, Ohio native Drew Saylor, who is celebrating his 34th birthday today, will return as the manager of the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes for a third straight season, having piloted the Dodgers Advanced Single-A affiliate to three consecutive postseason appearances.

“Returning for a third year, it’s incredibly exciting,” Saylor told director of public relations and longtime voice of the Quakes Mike Lindskog, shortly after the announcement. “There’s a lot of optimism within the organization, with the big club being a game away from winning the World Series and the minor league system having so much talent.

“The Rancho Cucamonga community is so passionate about both the Dodgers and the Quakes, it makes for a unique experience and one that I’m really looking forward to being a part of again,” Saylor added.

Saylor will be joined by new hitting coach Justin Viele and new pitching coach Connor McGuiness, both of whom will be entering their second season with the Dodgers organization but first at the Advanced Single-A level. Viele is a native of nearby Fullerton and served in the same capacity with the Pioneer Rookie League Ogden Raptors last season. McGuiness served as the hitting coach for the Low Single-A Great Lakes Loons in 2017. Rounding out Saylor’s staff will be assistant coach Petie Montero, who spent last season coaching the Dominican Summer League Dodgers.

The Quakes open the 2018 season on the road with a four game series against the Visalia Rawhide, the Arizona Diamondbacks Advanced Single-A affiliate. They then head over to Stockton for a three-game set against the Ports, the Oakland A’s High-A affiliate, before returning home to LoanMart Field for their home opener on Thursday, April 12, 2018 against perennial rivals and Angels Advanced Single-A affiliate Inland Empire 66ers.

With the success Saylor has had at RC a little surprising that he was not promoted to AA Tulsa
